about

Landscape
At the exhibition 'het vertelde landschap' (freely translated: the told landscape) by Stefan Belderbos, manipulated photographs of the Frisian landscapes were shown. The pictures show places where Frisian people tell legends about. And as time goes by, those stories get more mythical. The audience wonders:  what at this exibition is original and what was added?

Zeche
Zeche Zollverein is an coal mine and industrial complex, listed as German Industrial heritage. The whole plant, but most the cokery (or coking plant), echoes the noise and the heat of the harsh working conditions when the pant was still activ. Being out of order since the nineties, the plant gets into decay and the surrounded scenery defines the location no longer as an industrial spot, but as a park, the cokery almost becomes a "Fremdkörper" in this environment.

The two series of tracks connect two ways. First: they are inspired by landscapes. Second: the working method making these tracks was similar. Both series of tracks uses samples/fieldrecordings of several minutes. Which fragment within the sample would be used was randomized each time i worked on the tracks. It was a way of not looking at an picture, but looking at a lively surrounding. In some of the tracks these unpredicted fragments are leading, in other tracks this randomization is less distinct.

about

Cinema Perdu / Martijn Pieck Netherlands

I usually use fieldrecordings as a starting point for my compositions. With all kinds of other sound sources like manipulated samples, recorded sounds with a contact microphone and sound experiments on synths i want to musically (re)create the feeling of a place at a certain time. sometimes its more factual, sometimes its more storytelling.
